Yanliang Cave

Gigantopithecus blacki is one of only a handful of extinct species that we only know from teeth and mandibles. This is why Yanliang Cave is so important to this project as it is where the fourth mandible was discovered. When excavating this cave the IVPP left behind a Giganto tooth in the sedimentary section (see image).
